A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of 1536:the Year That Changed Henry Ⅷ(Chapter 3)

The author participated in and has gained a lot from the translation of 1536: The Year that Changed Henry VIII,a book written by Suzanna Lipscomb,British historian.The book consists of four chapters.Taking multiple perspectives,it starts from the responses of different people to the Reformation,and analyses the important historical events comprehensively and deeply.The author was responsible for translating the third chapter of the book.On the basis of this translation practice,the report elaborates my preliminary understanding of translation by applying Vermeer’s skopos theory,which is expounded after introducing the translation task and process.The skopos theory believes that translation is a purposeful human act,which is determined by the translation,purpose,that is,the purpose determines the methods.Therefore,the skopos theory attaches great importance to building the translation aim before the translation task,so as to choose the right translation methods and strategies.Under the guidance of the program and with the three rules of skopos,coherence and fidelity,the report tries to find the form of case analysis how to use appropriate translation methods and strategies to make the translation accurate,fluent,and in line with the reading habits of Chinese readers.The author has improved awareness through theoretical reflection on the translation practice,and learnt to summarize experience and lessons in practice.At last,the author hopes to provide some references for beginners in English-Chinese translation.
