Multimodal theory advocates that teachers should make full use of images,audio,multimedia and other teaching modes to stimulate students’ multiple senses in language learning,which provides a new perspective for English teaching.Students,who learn complex grammar rules mainly from the teacher’s explanation and a lot of practice,have lost their interests in current English grammar learning.Based on the theory of multimodal,this research tries to use the multimodal grammar teaching method to study if this method can help students learn English grammar.This study takes the teaching of the simple future tense as an example.It aims to find out whether this method is suitable to improve students’ achievements in simple future tense.It also intends to find a more effective method for teachers to teach English grammar.The main research questions are as follows:1.How does the mode of multimodal theory stimulate students’ interest in English grammar learning?2.Does the mode of multimodal theory help to improve students’ performance in simple future tense? If yes,to what extent can this mode improve the students’ performance in learning simple future tense?3.How do different students react to this teaching method? Is it suitable for students with different proficiency in English?The experiment was carried out among 72 students in a junior middle school in Gushi,Henan.The 72 students were randomly divided into two parallel classes,the experimental class and the control class.In this study,a questionnaire was used to investigate the current situation of English grammar teaching at first,and a pre-test was conducted in the two classes to find out if there was significant difference between the two classes on the simple future tense.The test results showed that there was no significant difference between the two classes.Then the multimodal grammar teaching was carried out in the experimental class and the traditional teaching method was used in the control class.At the end of the experiment,the two classes had a post-test,and a questionnaire and interview were also conducted.This experiment lasted for 4 weeks.The data was analyzed by SPSS 23.0.The results show that multimodal teaching can reduce the difficulty of grammar learning to a certain extent.It helps students better understand and master English grammar,so as to enhance students’ interest in English grammar learning.From the post-test,scores in the experimental class are higher than the control class,which proves that multimodal teaching can improve students’ performance in simple future tense.And this teaching method can significantly improve the grammar scores of students with middle-and low-level.Therefore,multimodal teaching can be used for students of middle-and low-level.In a word,this teaching method can help students learn English grammar better.
