| In the past two decades, interpreting research has broken into many subdivisions, including studies in interpreting theories, teaching and practice. The interdisciplinary study of interpreting theories combined with linguistics, cognitive psychology and other subjects has become a trend, which promotes the development of interpreting practice. However, the most difficult part of the study of interpreting application is the study of the information processing process, because it involves a variety of complex mechanisms and factors such as language, context, and participants in interpreting activities. While learning the theories of interpreting, interpreters should understand the information processing process and master its strategies.Yang Chengshu interpreted the three steps of Gile’s CI model(from note-taking,memory to note-reading)as an intermediate representation platform, and further explained the specific characteristics of the platform. On the basis of previous theories of other researchers, such as field of speech signs, the territory theory of information, mental space and image schema, combined with empirical researches,Yang Chengshu proposed that the internal structure of information shows a three-segment feature and has a specific layout, and she mapped out the path and defined the law of information transmission. In this report, the author’s interpreting practice in the 2019 Seminar for Liberian Senior Legal Management Personnel is used as analytical material. The audio record of this practice is turned into transcript.Based on Yang Chengshu’s information processing research model, the author analyzes the transcript from different aspects, including the characteristics of the source language, the quality of the interpretation product, and areas of weakness in information processing, ways of handling a large amount of redundancy and repeated information, and reactions to unclear and illogical discourse during the interpretation.Upon reflection,by using the three-segment information structure, note layout analysis and interpreting strategies such as deletion and weakening,a better revised version of each analyzed case is provided by the author.Based on the analysis, the report emphasizes the importance of task preparation, bilingual proficiency, knowledge reserve, and role transformation in a constantly changing context. It ventures to provide some general suggestions for interpreter-beginners about ways of improving their interpreting skills. |
