Research On The Missionary Activities In Penghu(1886-1942)

As the reflection of the interaction between foreign culture and traditional Chinese culture,the activities of Christianity in Penghu are also the epitome of the indigenization of Christianity in China.The Christian organization in the Penghu area was formed by the Westerners in the unintentional missionary processing and then conceived the interest with the hope of building God’s "city on the other side".However,the westerners are neither capable nor willing to bear the responsibility and burden of the Chinese local church in terms of economic self-reliance,church self-reliance,and believer autobiography.The localized Church was progressively established by Chinese believers.There are numerous researches on the politics,economy,and culture of Penghu area,but few research on the ideological situation of the people,especially the Christian religious belief.The tortuous development of Penghu Christianity is shown in this paper through the study of personnel,economy,interaction with local society,may be helpful to make up for the neglect of Penghu research in the past.
