The translation of Jin Yong’s A Hero Born is very difficult, and the cultural differences between China and foreign countries make it difficult for many target readers to understand the profound cultural connotation and thoughts and feelings contained in the novel when they read the novel, which results in the phenomenon of cultural default. This study is based on Lefevere’s cultural manipulation theory, drawing on the classification of culture-loaded words by Susan Bassnett and Peter Newmark, this paper divides the language of the book into three categories,namely,socio-cultural loaded words, linguistic loaded words and material loaded words, they are social culture words, character names, idioms, poems, martial arts, material culture words and dirty words,to analyze their cultural default and cultural compensation, and to analyze the influence of the three elements of literary manipulation on Cultural Compensation Strategies. The purpose of this paper is to study the advantages and disadvantages of Anna Holmwood’s English versions, and to provide references for translation in this field. It is found that there are many cultural defaults in translation, most of which have been translated by translators using appropriate cultural compensation strategies to reduce the misunderstandings of the target readers. And the proper translation has been summed up and some suggestions are put forward by the researcher.Secondly,by establishing English-Chinese parallel Corpus of A Hero Born and analyzing the relevant data,it has been found that the translator has made some changes to the original work, which is mainly reflected in the translation strategy. The translation has a higher degree of coherence than the original, and a lower vocabulary richness and density than the original, but this has no impact on the translator’s transfer of the original style.
