On The "Lightness" Of Shen Congwen’s Novels

Shen Congwen is a writer with changeable artistic style.From the early natural lyric to the later abstract lyric,Shen Congwen has been devoted to the exploration of novel art and tries to find the artistic form and style with his own personal characteristics.But no matter how it changes,we can find a common characteristic ——“lightnss ”.The term “lightness”here is not only formal,but also content,including the lightness of the language,the exquisite structure of the unique,the dialectical philosophy of the main purpose,the insinuation of the intention,as well as poetic artistic conception,existential thinking,pastoral style and post-modern humor irony...This paper attempts to make a new interpretation of the content and artistic form of Shen Congwen‘s novels from the perspective of “lightness ”,and tries to find out the reasons why Shen Congwen’s novels move towards “lightness”.And how to use new artistic strategies to express their unique understanding of the existence and significance of life.It is intended to find a new way to understand Shen Congwen and his literary creationThis thesis consists of three parts: Introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction part,first,introduce the origin,train of thought,meaning of this topic;Second,make a clear analys is and definition to the concept of “lightness”,discuss the focal point of this article research.The main body,The first chapter discusses the specific connotation of “lightness”in Shen Congwen’s novels.This paper discusses how Shen Congwen developed his unique object,content and purpose of literary expression through his unique artistic creation from three aspects: the unique space construction of imitating nature and transcending life and death,conforming to the spiritual and dreamy love writing,and identifying with the accidental and conforming to the natural life form.Shen Congwen said that he would use literature to build a Greek temple,which worships human nature and shows a “beautiful,healthy,natural and not contrary to human life form”.In fact,throughout the 1930 s,Shen Congwen was making a proper explanation for the “love” of human beings.He wrote simple,beautiful and harmonious stories,and wrote about the people and things of love and beauty in the Western Hunan world,where there was endless nature,pure and beautiful human nature,and dreamlike beautiful love,such as “border town”,“small scenery under the moon” and “after the rain” To achieve their own aesthetic and moral ideals.In the 1940 s,under the comprehensive effect of internal and external factors,Shen Congwen’s literary ideal turned to a philosophical realm.At this time,the expression of “light” is the history of writing heart and dream,showing the ideal and solemnity of life.The second chapter discusses the artistic expression of lightness in Shen Congwen’s novels.This part is divided into three parts: plot structure,image world and language art.First of all,Shen Congwen skillfully set the artistic lightness from the reversal and sudden turn of the plot.His novels are full of reversals and twists in plot structure.He turns some heavy things into funny and comic situations,and hides the cruelty of life in understatement.Secondly,Shen Congwen has many images in his novels,such as “water”,“flower” and “hanging head”,which are symbolic “light” images.Thirdly,Shen Congwen’s novels are full of “light” images,The language of Shen Congwen’s novels is beautiful,poetic and humorous at the same time.Shen Congwen looks at all the people and things in Xiangxi with poetic eyes.The beauty of nature,human relationship,human heart and human nature are revealed here.There are also sufferings behind it.However,Shen Congwen always deliberately creates lightness in life with relaxed brushwork.The third chapter discusses the formation of “lightness” in Shen Congwen’s novels.From the perspectives of Shen Congwen’s inheritance of Chinese lyric tradition,the edification and influence of Hunan and Chu culture,and Shen Congwen’s own life and life experience,this paper probes into the formation reasons and process of Shen Congwen’s artistic style of avoiding “heavy” and “light”.The conclusion part discusses the multiple meanings of “lightness” in Shen Congwen’s novels.On the basis of the above argument,this paper further summarizes the multiple values and significance of aesthetic,moral,cultural and social contained in the artistic form of“light” in Shen Congwen’s novels.
