| Vocabulary is a fundamental part for English learning.What’s more,it plays an important role in English learning.The four skills,namely listening,speaking,reading and writing in English can be raised after the training of the vocabulary.Therefore,it is very important for English learners to learn and accumulate vocabulary.However,students in junior high school have problems in memorizing words.Most students of junior high school memorize the words by rote.They spend much time memorizing words and the words are easy to be forgotten.Therefore,it is urgent to improve students’ ability to memorize vocabulary.Vocabulary learning includes the meaning,usage,form change and memory of words.The memory of words includes the sounds and forms.Therefore,mastering the sounds and shapes of the words is really helpful to the learners to learn vocabulary.Focusing on the students who are in trouble in vocabulary learning,the author has read a large number of studies on phonics to explore the phonics’ effects on vocabulary learning for students.Phonics,as a vocabulary teaching method,is highly respected abroad.Phonics acts as a bridge between the pronunciation and spelling of the words,which enables learners to read when they see the words and write the words when they hear the pronunciation.It is a breakthrough and progress in vocabulary teaching and opens a new model for vocabulary teaching.The thesis aims to explore the effectiveness of phonics in vocabulary learning.It is based on Language Transfer and Krashen’ Input Theory.This study includes the following three questions:(1)What effects does phonics have on students’ interests in English vocabulary learning?(2)What effects does phonics have on students’ ability in pronunciation and spelling?(3)What effects does phonics have students’ English achievement?The study adopted the empirical method,taking Class 2,Grade 7 and Class 4,Grade 7 as the research subjects.Class 2,Grade 7 and Class 4,Grade 7 are the experimental class and control class respectively.Phonics is used in the experimental class,while traditional vocabulary teaching method is used in the control class.The trial has run for one semester from September,2020 to January,2021.The author collected data by the ways of interviews,questionnaires,tests and other methods.After the analysis and discussion of the data,the results showed that phonics can simulate students’ interests in English vocabulary learning,improve students’ ability in vocabulary pronunciation and spelling,and their English achievement.Finally,the author gets enlightenment from the experiment.Firstly,phonics is an effective method to learning vocabulary.So teachers should be aggressive in applying phonics to vocabulary teaching,rather than using the traditional vocabulary teaching method.Secondly,schools should offer some materials about phonics and carry out activities about it,which can cultivate students’ phonological awareness to some extent.Thirdly,students should try their best to learn vocabulary by themselves after they master phonics. |
