| How to cultivate students’ reading literacy has always been the focus of primary and secondary school teachers. As a new reading mode,“reading circle” is a group form which takes students as the center and makes students complete reading tasks through cooperative learning. It can effectively cultivate students’ role awareness and strengthen students’ communication. Therefore, this study intends to make use of natural teaching conditions in the course of internship to introduce the “reading circle” mode into classroom teaching, take graded readers as materials, and explore the influence of “reading circle” on junior high school students’ reading score and reading style, and the relation between them. All in all, this study proposes the following research questions:1.Does “reading circle” mode affect students’ reading score? 2.Does “reading circle”mode affect students’ reading style? 3.How is reading score correlated to various parts of reading style? This study takes two classes of ninth grade students in Yichang No.16 middle school as the research object, among which class 903 is the experimental class and class 907 is the control class. The experimental period is three months and both classes use the same graded readers as extracurricular materials. However, the experimental class adopts the “reading circle” mode of “prepare-read-discuss-show”;while the control class adopts the conventional teaching mode of “read-do exercise-teach”.The pre-test and post test are carried out by adopting the research tools of test, questionnaire and interview, and the data are analyzed by SPSS 24.0.Through the analysis, three results can be concluded from the study:1.After the experiment, there exists significant difference in reading score between the experimental class and the control class, and the reading score of the experimental class is higher than that of the control class, which implicates that the “reading circle” mode affects students’ reading score.2.“Reading circle” mode has a positive influence on students’ reading style. The “reading circle” mode not only promotes students to form good reading habits, but also stimulates students’ reading interest, corrects students’ reading attitude and improves students’ reading literacy.3.Reading score has a high relation with reading habit, reading attitude, reading interest and self evaluation, which indicates that reading score and reading style complement and promote each other. The results of this study provide some implications for English reading teaching: firstly, teacher should give full play to students’ dominant position in the “reading circle” activities;secondly, teacher should timely change their teaching role from the traditional knowledge imparter to the student’s learning instructor, helper and promoter;thirdly, the “reading circle”activities put forward some high requirements for teachers’ professional ability. Therefore, teacher should coordinate various influence and strive to organize plenty of classroom activities. |
