| With the deepening of education reform,the development of elementary English education in rural areas has received widespread attention.Teachers in rural primary schools,as a weak part of the fundamental education,have prominent problems of low engagement,high burnout,and continuous decline in well-being on working.The issue of the job burnout and professional well-being will directly affect their working enthusiasm,which has an impact on the stable development of rural teachers and the quality of rural basic education.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the status and relationship of the job burnout,professional well-being and work engagement of English teachers in rural primary schools.In this study,the Job Burnout Questionnaire compiled by Maslach,Teachers’ Work Engagement Questionnaire compiled by the domestic scholar Zhang Yiwen,and the questionnaire of professional well-being of primary and middle school teachers compiled by Qiao Shuang were used as research tools.A random extraction of 198 English teachers from rural primary school of Ganzhou was conducted for questionnaire survey and the recovered data were statistically analyzed using SPSS26.0 statistical software.The Research questions are as follows:(1)What is the present status of professional well-being,work engagement and job burnout of rural primary school English teachers?(2)Are there significant differences in demographic variables(gender,age,teaching age,academic background,marriage,monthly income,professional titles,teaching hours,and job nature)of English teachers’ professional well-being,work engagement and job burnout in rural primary schools?(3)Are there correlations among professional well-being,work engagement and job burnout of rural primary school English teachers?The results are as follow:(1)The overall level of job burnout of rural English teachers in Ganzhou City is higher(M=3.10),the overall level of professional well-being is higher(M=3.481),and the work engagement is slightly higher than the medium level(M=4.378);(2)Teachers of different ages,teaching ages,marriage status,professional titles,teaching hours per week,and monthly income have significant differences in job burnout;teachers of different ages,marriage status,job titles,teaching hours per week,and monthly income have significant differences in professional well-being and work engagement.(3)There is a strong inverse correlation between work engagement and job burnout of English teachers in rural primary schools;there is an obviously positive correlation between professional well-being and work engagement of English teachers in rural primary schools;there is a notable negative correlation between job burnout and professional well-being of English teachers in rural primary schools.Based on the above research results,this study puts forward some proposals on how to ameliorate the situation of English teachers’ job burnout and professional well-being,and thus improve their work engagement in rural primary schools of Ganzhou. |
