| Multimedia teaching has various and flexible forms of expression and characteristics of controllability,repeatability and large amount of information,which saves teachers’ time in class and enables teachers to have more interaction with students in limited time.It has rich and vivid teaching resources and the real situations created by sounds,images and videos fully meets the learning psychology of primary school students.It can mobilize the attention and interest of primary school students to improve teaching efficiency.However,what is the status quo of the application of multimedia teaching in urban primary schools in Nanjing? In order to explore its real application status and existing problems,to provide English teachers in primary schools with a reference to the present stage of multimedia teaching and a further reflection on the future teaching design,and to further improve the teaching efficiency and level in urban primary schools,the author put forward the following research questions:(1)What is the cognition and attitude of English teachers towards multimedia teaching in urban primary schools?(2)What is the allocation of multimedia hardware facilities and software resources in urban primary schools?(3)What are the practical application and existing problems of multimedia teaching in English in urban primary schools?Based on a survey of 10 urban primary schools,108 primary school English teachers,4 teacher interviews and observation in a primary school in Nanjing,the following conclusions are drawn:Firstly,90 percent of the teachers have a comprehensive understanding of the composition of multimedia teaching,50 percent of the teachers have superficial knowledge of features and functions of multimedia teaching.It means teachers’ understanding of multimedia teaching is not deep enough,which leads to incomplete use of multimedia.It finally results in poor teaching effect.More than 80 percent of the teachers are interested in multimedia teaching,which is positive,but they also have some doubts.Secondly,the multimedia teaching equipment in 90 percent urban primary schools is complete.The quality is good and it can satisfy the teaching demand basically.The equipment occasionally breaks down.30 percent elementary schools do not have rules on multimedia equipment.90 percent of the teachers taught themselves how to make courseware,and almost all of them use Power Point.Schools should improve teaching equipment and do regular maintenance and repair,so as to avoid equipment failure and unnecessary accidents in the class.Also courseware learning should be organized often.Thirdly,the frequency of teachers using multimedia teaching is very high,and the most frequently used media is image.But it also means teachers rely on multimedia too much,and there lacks other ways of teaching.Students are easy to feel tired and boring,which leads to poor teaching effect.Teachers often use multimedia to create natural and authentic teaching situations and achieve different teaching goals.Much repetition exists in the courseware to help students understand more deeply.With multimedia,the form of exercises is various.There are many problems in the teaching process too,such as improper selection of teaching materials,improper handling of teaching accidents,using multimedia for too much time,too much content in the courseware,teachers lacking thinking when using courseware,and so on.The author gets some pedagogical implications from the research.First,the primary school English teachers should establish a scientific teaching idea.Second,primary school English teachers should improve their own quality.Third,the primary school English teaching auxiliary way should diversify.Fourth,teachers should optimize the design of multimedia teaching.Finally,the courseware design should grasp the “quality”. |
