Yayoi Kusama “Dot Art” Exhibition Practice Of Digital Art Gallery

Yayoi Kusama’s works have always been bringing strong visual impact to the audience and arouse strong emotional resonance since her early success in 1950 s.Although most people have heard of “polka dots”,the trademark of Yayoi Kusama’s work,few people have the chance to visit any physical exhibitions.With the technology of virtual reality,a digital art gallery can be established to provide opportunities for more audience from all over the world.The present paper studied and practiced the display design of a “polka dots” digital art gallery.To determine the display form of the “polka dots” digital art gallery,this paper analyzed the characteristics of the virtual reality technology,reviewed worldwide development of virtual digital art galleries,and enumerated the mainstream forms of virtual digital art galleries.The“polka dots” digital art gallery presented in this paper used installation art works of Yayoi Kusama as exhibition objects.Focusing on user experience,the layout,tour route and interactive mode of the exhibition hall were designed based on the characteristics of the virtual reality technology.The “polka dots”digital art gallery compensated the limitations of the physical art gallery,expanded the display mode of the gallery,and in the meanwhile,preserved art works.
