As a religious narrative image with the theme of Jesus’ life series events, the serial narrative images of Jesus’ life have special significance in the history of art.In the 14 th and 15 th centuries, the intersection of the middle ages and the Renaissance, gave birth to works of art with a unique style. The series of narrative images of Jesus’ life, which can be traced back to the 4th century A.D.,showed a unique appearance in this period. This paper takes the narrative images of Jesus’ life from the 14 th to 15 th century as the research object, and conducts research from three aspects. In the first chapter, based on the series of narrative images of the life of Jesus from the 4th to the 13 th century, this paper discusses the theme changes and change reasons of the series of narrative images of the life of Jesus from the 14 th to the 15 th century. In the second chapter, this paper analyzes the narrative mode of the series of narrative images of Jesus’ life from four aspects of characters, plot, space and composition. It also discusses the image characteristics of the series of narrative images of Jesus’ life by comparing them with non-narrative images,non-religious narrative images and Buddhist narrative images. In the third chapter, the paper explores the function of narrative image from two aspects:instruction, and worship.Through the research and demonstration of these three aspects, this paper tries to solve such a problem, that is,how the series of narrative images of Jesus’ life in the 14 th and 15 th century constantly "adjust themselves" to adapt to the changes of the times and society, and what unique narrative mode is used to meet the needs of different social subjects and play different functions.
