At present,with the development of educational reform,great changes have taken place in the form and content of English teaching.But listening and speaking are still the two difficulties in English learning.For lacking of language environment to practice English listening and speaking in China,how to teach students’ spoken and listening English effectively has become an eternal topic.The New Curriculum Standard 2011emphasizes: “ We pay attention to the practicality and applicability of language,and encourage students to communicate and understand the target language in the context.Learning and using language on the base of language environment”.Situational teaching method can meet the requirements of this kind of teaching,which is favored by many teachers,but there are still many problems in how to use it for listening and speaking.Especially in many rural areas,the requirements of the new curriculum standard has not been implemented in the listening and speaking class of junior middle schools,even fewer people have tried this kind of teaching method.Moreover,English teaching in rural schools and urban teaching in information resources,there is still a big gap in foreign language learning environment,so it is urgent to explore new teaching methods to improve the quality of rural English teaching.Therefore,this study intends to apply the situational approach to rural junior middle school English listening and speaking teaching in accordance with the requirements of the new curriculum standards to explore effective ways to improve students’ listening and speaking ability and awareness.Under the guidance of the new curriculum standards,this paper applies the situational teaching method to the rural junior middle school English listening and speaking teaching,through the test method,the case teaching,the classroom observation and the interview method,solves the following research problems:What effect can situational teaching method have on the listening and speaking interests of rural middle school students? What effect does situational teaching method have on rural middle school students’ listening and speaking ability ?What is the effective mode of situational teaching method to English listening and speaking teaching in rural junior high school.This research conducted a four-month case study 80 students at Dianjiang Y Middle School.Classroom observation,interviews,test data was analyzed,the findings are as followings:Situational teaching method is helpful to improve students’ interest and competence of listening and speaking in rural areas.The effective mode in listening and speaking class of rural middle school includes:Creating a situational activity with the help of a song or picture to lead in the topic;Practicing the target language by joining the activity;Consolidating the target language by having more situational activities,such as role-play and interview.The purpose of this thesis is to provide a situational teaching model for English listening and speaking in rural middle schools,and to promote the implementation of the new curriculum standard in rural areas.
