| Grammar,as an important foundation for developing speech skills,plays a vital role in English teaching,but there are still some drawbacks in English teaching in China,such as students’ low interest in learning and insufficient interaction between teachers and students in class.Engage-Study-Activate(ESA)is an English teaching mode put forward by British scholar Hammer(2000),which emphasizes the adoption of games,music,discussion and other activities to arouse students’ interest in what they have learned,so that students can take the initiative to join and enjoy the classroom.Therefore,in view of the existing problems in grammar teaching,this study attempts to combine ESA teaching mode with junior high school English grammar teaching,aiming at improving students’ monotonous stereotype of traditional English grammar,and improving students’ interest in grammar learning and grammar application ability.Before the experiment,there was no great difference in English scores between Class 3 and Class 4 of a middle school in Tongnan,Chongqing.Therefore,this study selected 95 students from these two classes as research objects,and used ESA teaching mode in Class 4,while traditional teaching method in Class 3,and conducted a three-month teaching experiment to explore the following problems:(1)Can ESA teaching mode change the way students learn English grammar?(2)Can ESA teaching mode improve students’ interest in learning English grammar and their participation in class?(3)Can ESA teaching mode improve students’ grammar application ability ?By consulting the literature related to ESA teaching mode,methods such as survey method,test method and interview method will be adopted,and SPSS and EXCEL will compare and analyze the two test scores and questionnaires of the two classes,and analyze the interview questions at the same time,so as to obtain corresponding data and feedback information during the teaching experiment.After sorting out and analyzing the data,the following research findings can be obtained: First,grammar class under ESA teaching mode can change students’ interest in grammar learning and make students participate in grammar class more actively and integrate into grammar class;Second,ESA teaching mode can change students’ learning style,and students can use English songs and associative memories to learn after class;Finally,ESA teaching mode can also improve students’ grammar application ability to a certain extent. |
