Malory’s Le Morte Darthur was written in the late Middle Ages.Although the work has strong Christian color due to the limitations of the times, the author also wrote his rebellious spirit to the times through different aspects,or in other words,Malory injected his new thinking of the times into Le Morte Darthur and endowed it with new connotation. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the rebellious spirit of Malory through the study of several typical individual images in the text of Le Morte Darthur, which extends to the knight view, the female view and the religious view. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part is the introduction, which briefly introduces the background and influence of Le Morte Darthur, summarizes the research status at home and abroad, and puts forward the research purpose and significance of this paper. The second part will take the typical Knight Lancelot as an example, through the analysis of Lancelot’s spirit, reveal Malory’s opposition and rebellion to the traditional Knight concept.Lancelot’s torn ego and confusion of identity reflect Malory’s questioning of traditional knighthood and chivalry. The third part reveals Malory’s rebellion against the medieval view of misogyny by comparing his works with those written by his predecessors and the witches written by the British writers of the same period. His writing of Morgan le Fay reflects his affirmation of women. The fourth part will take the magician Merlin as an example, through tracing the evolution of his life experience and identity problems,we can find that Malory’s life experience is diluted, which just reflects the collision between Christianity and Paganism in the late Middle Ages, and the characterization of his character reflects the rebellion against asceticism and bursts out the spark of humanism. The last part is the conclusion.Although Malory lived in the late Middle Ages, his works reveal the rebellious spirit of the times in all aspects, which endows the Le Morte Darthur with new connotation and significance.
