| This study was designed to find out the impact of factors that influence the motivation in learning Chinese as a second language for the Indonesian undergraduate students that will help educational thinkers to know students’ attitudes towards learning,what facilitates learning and what hinders in the process of learning.The present research investigates the motivational factors of Indonesian students who are enrolled in Chinese courses at a university level in Medan City,Indonesia.This research used qualitative research design.The data collected through a snowball sampling method,by filling out online questionnaires and in-depth interviews via social media were collected and analyzed to report the findings.According to the findings,each two sections of motivation the instrumental motivation and the integrative motivation,shows the following main results as well.First,the data in the study highlighted a preference among students for their answer that related to the instrumental motivation is preference Chinese.For the second one of another section that related to the integrative motivation are about Chinese improvement,relevance learning strategies and confident in the class.The result of the study confirmed that the students motivational levels would increase as a result of intentional implementation of studentpreferred motivational teaching strategies in the classroom.The teaching method affects with students’ motivation.The environmental and students’ behavior is also being the factors that influence motivation in learning Chinese as a second language.This study can help to solve practical problems in teaching Chinese as a second language in Indonesia.As a result,the research not only open new horizons to next researchers investigating on the similar topic,but maintain the positive progress of the University as well. |
