The ancient Ba ethnic group was an ethnic group that had a great influence on the early historical development of China.The area where it was nurtured and grown has a unique geographical environment and formed abundant human resources.In the course of long-term historical evolution,the ethnic spirit of advocating witchcraft and martial arts and being brave and good at war has gradually formed,and this ethnic spirit has gradually merged into a unique ethnic culture—Ba culture.Bronze weapons are typical bronze artifacts of the ancient Ba ethnic group.It is not only a war tool,but also a carrier of the ancient Ba ethnic spirit.Its unique plastic arts and decorative patterns reflect the value orientation of the ancient Ba culture and are typical traditional arts and crafts works.On the surface,the decorative patterns are messy,but after careful analysis and research,various information about the social life of the ancient Ba people permeates behind the decorative patterns,expressing the ancient Ba people’s customs,wars,and witchcraft activities.It is a symbolic pattern of witchcraft culture,simple and simple pictographs,and abstract and exaggerated decorative patterns,reflecting the unique aesthetic cognition of the ancient Ba ethnic culture.Analyzing the existing research literature on the decorative patterns of bronze weapons in the ancient Ba minority area can get a clearer understanding.At present,most researches on the decorative patterns of bronze weapons are understood and interpreted from the perspective of archaeology,but from the perspective of fine arts.There are still many shortcomings in the research.Therefore,this article attempts to systematically study the decorative pattern modeling art of bronze weapons in the ancient Ba minority area from the perspective of fine arts,and analyze its decorative pattern modeling rules,formal language,artistic characteristics,cultural background and aesthetic value;this is useful for the systematic study of ancient Ba ethnic group.The aesthetic characteristics,cultural characteristics,and artistic characteristics of the ethnic group have positive meanings,and they also provide a valuable research basis for the study of ancient Ba ethnic art.This article mainly elaborates from four aspects: 1.Summarize and sort out the types of decorative patterns on bronze weapons in the ancient Ba minority area;2.The modeling features of the decorative patterns of bronze weapons in the ancient Ba minority area;3.Explore the cultural connotation of the decorative patterns of bronze weapons in the ancient Ba minority area;4.Analyze the differences in the decorative patterns of bronze weapons between the ancient Ba area and the Chu and Shu areas.From an archaeological point of view,the areas where the ancient Ba people lived and developed steadily during a long historical period should be identified as ancient Ba areas.Based on the existing archaeological results,the ancient Ba people’s territory roughly covers the present-day Chongqing as the center,and spans the southeast of Sichuan,the northeast of Guizhou,the west of Hubei,and the west of Hunan.This article focuses on Chengdu,Chongqing,Enshi,Changsha and other places where Ba people’s activities were frequent in ancient times.Since the Warring States period was the most prosperous period for the development of bronze culture in the ancient Ba ethnic group area,and also the period when the unearthed bronze weapons were cast with the most decorative patterns,the time frame of this article mainly focuses on the Warring States period.
