| Recently,with the rapid development of computer and Internet,CALL has received much attention from foreign language teachers.The changes in new teaching scenarios and methods require teachers to keep pace with time to promote the development of CALL.The Ministry of Education of China(MOE)has issued a series of documents with requirements and improvements of information technology literacy for teachers.In addition,the existing empirical studies on foreign language teachers and CALL at home and abroad involve the status quo and problems,influential factors and suggestions for improvement,but most studies mainly focus on in-service teachers,paying less attention to pre-service teachers.Therefore,this thesis explores secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception and practice of CALL,as well as their relationships and the influential factors,which is expected to enrich the existing studies and improve the perception and practice of secondary school pre-service English teachers.The present paper is a case study,which examined the perception of practice of CALL by a group of secondary school pre-service English teachers at a university in Chongqing,by means of the methods of questionnaire and interview survey to collect the data,and using SPSS26.0 and Excel 2019 to analyze the data.The research questions in this thesis are listed as follows:1.What is the status quo of secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception of CALL?2.What is the status quo of secondary school pre-service English teachers’ practice of CALL?3.What is the relationship between secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception and practice of CALL?4.What factors influence secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception and practice of CALL?The research findings are summarized as follows:1.The status quo of secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception of CALLGenerally,secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception of CALL is good.Specifically,the teachers hold positive views in terms of the roles of CALL,the influential factors of CALL and the views on teachers and CALL;however,the teachers are not very clear about the limitations of CALL(the results from the questionanniare survey is different from those from the interview survey).2.The status quo of secondary school pre-service English teachers’ practice of CALLGenerally,secondary school pre-service English teachers’ practice of CALL is not ideal.Specifically: As for the use of computer-based softwares and network resources,the teachers are generally not familiar with and do not frequently use them.As for the use of technological tools for vocabulary instruction,the teachers do not frequently use technological tools for vocabulary instruction.As for the use of technological tools for grammar instruction,some technological tools are used by many teachers but some by some or a few teachers.As for the use of technological tools for pronunciation,speaking,audio-visual,reading and writing instruction,the status quo is not ideal.As for the use of translation tools for English instruction,the status quo is relatively ideal.As for the use of corpus and corpus tools for English instruction,the status quo is also not ideal.3.The relationship between secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception and practice of CALLThere is a significant correlation between secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception and practice of CALL,but the levels of the perception and the practice are not the same,and the level of the perception is better than that of the practice.4.The influential factors of secondary school pre-service English teachers’ perception and practice of CALLThere are six factors that affect the perception and the practice at the same time.They are self-study of computer courses at postgraduate stage,self-study of CAI courses at postgraduate stage,learning CALL courses offered by school at postgraduate stage,self-study of CALL courses at postgraduate stage,frequency of CALL in micro-teaching and effects of micro-teaching on teachers’ perception and practice of CALL.It is clear that the study of relevant courses and self-study at postgraduate period are important for secondary school pre-service English teachers.Accordingly,the author puts forward improvement strategies from the perspective of teacher and school.It is hoped that this research can arouse people’s attention to CALL and provide reference for future research and practice. |
