A Multi Angle Study On The Construction Of “Zai X Mei You(Le)”

“Zai X Mei You(Le)再X没有(了)”is a subjective degree construction which is quite a characteristic quantity expression in Chinese language.The inner components of“Zai X Mei You(Le)”include the negation about the meaning of comparative degree,but non of the components can present maximum quantity expression alone.Analyzing the perspective of the construction as a whole,“Zai X Mei You(Le)”confirms the denying of the further deepening possibilities of“the level of character reflected by someone or something”.In order to express that the modality of someone or the properties of something achieve the limitation on subjective evaluation,we emphasize there is no further deepening possibilities of adjective“X”,the meaning of“X”can not be surpassed.Such extreme judgment can only rely on the subjective judgment of the speaker instead of the objective facts,to expresses the speaker’s subjective understanding of the magnitude and reflects the speaker’s subjective attitude.Supported by the theory of construction,this paper investigates it from diachronic and synchronic perspectives,which further enriches the study of subjective extremum construction.It is also of reference significance to explore other subjective extremum constructions.There are three chapters,contents of each chapter are summarized as follows:The introduction part is mainly to clarify the research object and present the significance of the research,summarize the status of the research and problems existed about“Zai X Mei You(Le)”.Also with the necessary illustration about the theoretical methods and corpus resources adopted in the research.In Chapter one,we have a synchronic analysis about the construction of“Zai X Meiyou(Le)”.We first make a appraisal of construction about“Zai X Meiyou(Le)”,clarify the basis and variant of this construction,analyze and summarize its meaning.Next we study the structural components-“Zai”“X” “Mei You”“Le” separately.At last,we give some detailed analysis from three aspects: syntax,semantics and pragmatics.Chapter two is the diachronic study about the construction of“Zai X Mei You(Le)”.It is divided into four parts.Firstly,we study the formation and development of“Zai X Mei You(Le)”.We categorize it by different periods,analyze its characteristics and changes;Secondly,we explore the evolution process of the construction of“Zai X Mei You(Le)”from the pre-construction stage to the construction stage;Thirdly,we talk about the motivation of this construction;Lastly,we inspect the formation mechanism about the construction of“Zai X Mei You(Le)”.In Chapter three,we provide some comparisons between“Zai X Mei You(Le)”and other related constructions such as“Zai X Bu Guo(再X不过)”and“Bu Neng Geng X(不能更X)”.Focusing on the differences among the constructions,we have a profound study about the difference of“Zai X Mei You(Le)”and other constructions of subjective maximum quantity expression in the same type,through the aspects of syntactic function differences,solidification differences and variant differences,magnitude differences of semantic expression differences and subjective and objective differences.The last part offers a short conclusion.We summarize the main strands of the study and indicate the possible innovations and collect the drawbacks of the study.
