| Foreign language learning focuses on the comprehensive use of listening,speaking,reading and writing skills.Therefore,listening comprehension,as one of the ways of language input,is extremely important for foreign language learners.Good listening comprehension ability can help learners improve their comprehensive language ability and promote the effective implementation of foreign language teaching.However,in the past few years,English listening comprehension has been especially difficult for the learners to master and much more difficult than thought for the teachers to make it clear.Most of the students can not understand the listening materials when they are asked to finish some exercises involved in checking their listening comprehension ability.As a consequence,the students can not do well in all the English tests handed out by the teachers.But if this takes place again and again,the students might be trapped in an awkward occasion,in which they might feel more and more anxious about the listening practices,and what is worse,the students might lose their interest in English study in the long run.Taking all of these problems mentioned above into consideration,more and more language researchers started to think about what they could do to help the English teachers improve the efficiency of listening teaching.In recent years,a number of researches conducted by the language scholars have shown that by means of applying some learning strategies,it will be much easier for the language learners to understand the learning materials.And more specifically,listening comprehension will be much easier to obtain with students making use of listening strategies.But much to the disappointment of high school teachers,a majority of studies lay their focuses on the impact of all the listening strategies on listening comprehension.Even though there are a slight bit of researches investigating the impact of a listening strategy on listening comprehension,almost all of them are carried out in college.That is to say,it is extremely rare that the researchers make a survey on the influence that a listening strategy has on the listening comprehension of high school students.As a high school English teacher with 6 years of teaching experience,the author finds that most of the students in the school are bad at listening comprehension,and therefore the author seeks to help the students improve their listening abilities by connecting listening prediction strategy training with listening teaching in the classroom.After the experiment,the author wants to give reasonable explanation on the two hypotheses shown below:1.What are the differences in the use of listening prediction strategy among the students with high and low scores?2.What influence does the training of prediction strategy have on the listening comprehension of high school English learners?Based on the results of the experiment conducted by the previous researchers,this study applies educational experiment method as well as questionnaire survey method.The subjects are 111 students from two parallel classes of Grade 1 in Anshun No.2Senior high school.After the experiments,the software SPSS22.0 will be used to calculate and analyze the statistics drawn form the last stage.According to the data analysis,it is clearly found that the students with different scores in the listening pre-test have some differences in the use of listening prediction strategy.The students with higher scores not only have a much deeper knowledge about the prediction strategy itself,but they put the prediction strategy into listening practice more frequently.Furthermore,after 12 weeks of strategy training,the students in the experimental group also show great differences on the listening test scores compared with the students in the control group.The students in the experimental group scored better than those in the control group,and they also make much more progress than the students in the control group.The results of the experiment will help the students and the teachers realize the great value of applying listening strategies to listening comprehension.For the students,these results will help them know how they can properly take advantage of listening strategies in the process of listening practice.At the same time,the results of the survey may also provide some references for the teachers to work on their listening class planning.To sum up,the results will not only make up for the deficiency that the high school teachers are not certain about how they can relate the listening strategies to listening teaching,but they will also contribute some feasible suggestions for the students to improving their listening ability. |
