| Nowadays,although there are various ways to study visual art,it is still a blank to consider the relationship between vision and national character.This paper takes the material field of British image collection during World War II,visual artists and their works,a series of visual art activities,the media logic of films and comics,and the practical activities of exiled artists from different countries as important ways to study the shaping of people’s sense of national identity,This paper analyzes the role of visual representation in the construction of British national identity during World War II.With the title of "Research on the visual construction of British art for national character during World War II",this paper aims to explore how visual art promotes the construction of national character through various subsystems in the era of war.In this paper,according to the needs of topic selection,the author,on the basis of reading a large number of English literature,obtains the key information of topic selection through literature,combines the research methods of art history,takes image and situational analysis as the necessary description means,and puts sociology,history,communication and other multidisciplinary thinking into the paper to break the boundaries of various disciplines,This paper tries to analyze the relationship between visual art and national character from a comprehensive and objective perspective.In the first chapter,the author discusses the construction of British national character in the Imperial War Museum,which collects a large number of wartime visual arts,and analyzes the wartime expression strategies adopted by the museum as a gathering place of visual arts during the war;The second chapter focuses on the wartime experience and visual art works of British wartime official artists,and discusses their role in shaping national character.Taking David pomberg,John Piper and Cecil Beaton as examples,it analyzes their respective aesthetic views and visual works,so as to reflect their influence on British national character and national identity;In the third chapter,the visual artists from other countries who fled to Britain during World War II are taken as the starting point to study the guiding role of exile art in the construction of national character,and how the artists carry out activities to reconstruct their identity after entering Britain as exiles;In the fourth chapter,taking the British wartime art exhibition as the research carrier,the author studies the wartime operation mechanism,specific practice,sponsors and other factors of the activity as well as the issue of national production;The fifth chapter focuses on the cross media logic of the visual construction of national character,and analyzes their respective media logic by taking movies and comics as examples.By combing several key factors in the process of visual construction of British national identity during World War II,this paper makes a relatively complete interpretation and analysis of the field of visual art display and collection during World War II,British official artists and their specific works,exiled artists and art practice,wartime art exhibition activities,cross media logic of visual representation,etc,And draw a conclusion to clarify the different constructive role of each factor.In addition,through the research on the visual construction of British national character during World War II,it provides reference and Enlightenment for the domestic research on the relationship between visual representation and national character. |
