| Improving students’ academic literacy is an important goal of cultivating academic graduate students.The amount of academic engagement directly affects the academic literacy and academic research level of academic graduate students.As a reserve force for foreign language research,academic graduate students of English majors have far-reaching significance in their academic engagement status quo,influencing factors,and influencing mechanism.However,there are few related studies in the existing literature.This article investigates the academic engagement status quo of academic graduate students of English majors,explores its influencing factors and mechanism,and provides constructive suggestions for the cultivation of academic graduate students of English majors.Based on the above research questions,this research adopts a random sampling method to select 300 academic graduate students of English majors from 91 universities with graduate admission qualifications as the research subjects.By means of interview,this paper makes an exploratory study on the academic factors influencing the academic master’s degree of English majors.On this basis,a questionnaire for academic engagement is compiled.The research uses SPSS 22.0 for exploratory factor analysis and AMOS 22.0 to establish structural equation models for confirmatory factor analysis,revealing the status quo,influencing factors,and mechanism of academic engagement of English majors.The research finds that:(1)Academic graduate students of English majors do not have high behavioral engagement.In emotional engagement,academic graduate students in English majors have a high sense of professional identity,but their academic attitudes are not positive.Among the demographic variables,gender and grade are significantly correlated with the academic engagement of academic graduate students of English,while the correlation between birthplace and English proficiency is not significant.(2)In the research on the relationship between academic engagement and influencing factors,the results of correlation analysis and regression analysis show that the school environment and academic atmosphere,tutor guidance,academic ability,internal academic motivation,and academic engagement are all significantly positively correlated.(3)In terms of the mechanism of influencing factors on academic engagement,behavioral engagement and emotional engagement are directly affected by internal motivations,and indirectly by the three influencing factors of tutor guidance,school environment and academic atmosphere,and academic ability.Cognitive engagement is directly affected by the tutor’s guidance and internal motivation and indirectly affected by the school environment and academic atmosphere,and academic ability.Based on the above-mentioned research findings,this research puts forward specific suggestions from three levels: students,tutors,and schools on how to increase the academic engagement of academic graduate students of English majors.On the part of students,students should strengthen their question awareness and research interest to promote the internalization of academic engagement motivation.Regarding tutors,attention should be paid to the motivational effect of tutors on students,and a positive motivational effect should be achieved through timely encouragement and praise for the academic progress of graduate students.In terms of schools,schools should strengthen the cultivation of students’ academic ability.Schools can formulate reasonable requirements for the publication of academic graduate student papers in English majors to improve the quality of their papers. |
