A Report On The C-E Translation Of So Slow,so Beautiful (Excerpts) Guided By Skopos Theory

As the source text of this report,So Slow,So Beautiful is a typical travel prose.It was written by Luo Fu,a Chinese writer,who has been living in Northern Europe.Based on what she has seen and heard in the past more than 10 years in northern Europe,she aimed to introduce the readers how people in the Nordic countries can gain happiness though the“slow life”.In order to reach the purpose of the translation and make the target readers accept and understand the information and connotation of the source text,the translator chose the skopos theory as its theoretical guidance.In the process of translation,according to the features at the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level of So Slow,So Beautiful,the translator adopted appropriate translation techniques and translation strategies to analyze the translation problems from the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.At the lexical level,there is a larger number of words with Chinese characteristics and repetitive Chinese idioms.At the syntactic level,there are long sentences,sentences with Chinese characteristics,non-subject sentences and sentences with rhetorical devices.At the textual level: the translation should achieve the coherence between source text and target text.Under the guidance of skopos theory,to improve the accuracy of the translation,the translator adopted the translation techniques such as paraphrase and omission to solve the problems at the lexical level;To increase the readability of the translation,the translator adopted the strategies and techniques such as reconstruction,paraphrase,addition,literal translation and free translation to solve the problems at the syntactic level;To enhance the fluency of the translation,the translator used conjunctions and reference to solve the problems at the textual level.This translation report made a detailed analysis and summary of the translation problems and the uses of translation techniques in So Slow,So Beautiful,in order to provide a reference for the future translation activities of travel prose.
