| This translation practice report is selected from the fantasy work In an Absent Dream,written by American writer Mc Guire Seanan.The work narrates the adventure story about a girl named Lundy,who surprisingly found a giant tree on her way home,and from then on she kept shuttling through the secret door on it connecting the fantasy world and the real world.In an Absent Dream was published in January,2019.There has not been any previous Chinese version published before.The novella is a typical fantasy work,and most of the readers are children and teenagers.The purpose of this translation project is to summarize some translation strategies about fantasy literature,so as to provide some reference for the translation of fantasy works,and meanwhile to share some hands-on experience for the translation of fantasy literature in the future.Therefore,in addition to considering the basic problems of literary translation,the translator also needs to pay attention to the characteristics of fantasy literature and the particularity of the target readers.The translation project has been analyzed by the translator under the guidance of the reception theory.From the three aspects of vocabulary,sentence and dialogue,the translator discusses how to translate the words and sentences in the source language to cater to the aesthetic taste and needs of the target language readers,and what kind of translation skills and methods can be adopted to deal with the blankness and remove indeterminacy of the source text. |
