A Preliminary Study Of Natural Disasters And Their Defensive Measures In The Li Region Since The Founding Of New China (1950-1987)

Research on natural disasters in the Li region has been a very weak area in academia.This thesis takes the Li region from 1950 to 1987 as the starting point and examines the types of natural disasters that occurred in the Li region during this time period,the hazards and losses caused to the local people by various natural disasters,and the defensive measures taken by the Li region to cope with various natural disasters.During the period from 1950-1987,the main natural disasters that occurred in the Li region were meteorological disasters such as wind,drought,cold and cold temperatures,thunderstorms,tornadoes and hailstorms,hydrological disasters such as floods and storm surges,biological disasters such as pests and diseases,birds and animals,and geological disasters such as landslides and mudslides and earthquakes.These four types of disasters are the main types of disasters that have occurred in the Li region during this period of time.All kinds of natural disasters brought harm and damage to the Li region,only to varying degrees of severity and magnitude.Wind,drought and floods were the three biggest natural disasters in the Li region at the time,followed by cold and cold,pests and birds and animals,while thunderstorms,tornadoes,hailstorms and storm surges caused less damage and loss.The various hazards and losses caused by natural disasters to the Li region are examined in this thesis,regardless of their degree of harm or damage.When faced with the various natural disasters that come their way,the people of the Li region,under the leadership of the Party and governments at all levels,have adopted a variety of measures for defence,both traditional and modern.But whatever the measures,they have all had a certain effect on the defence against natural disasters.Finally,this thesis concludes with an analysis and study of all aspects of natural disasters that occurred in the Li region during the 1950-1987 time period,summarising several features,characteristics and patterns.
