| Salman Rushdie(1947-)is one of the "three British literary immigrants".Different from Ishiguro’s preference for recollective narration and Naipaul’s preference for "rootlessness",Rushdie’s novels embody a distinctive style of magic realism.Through the analysis of Rushdie’s "magic Trilogy",this paper discusses the specific performance and formation reasons of the magic realism style in Rushdie’s novels, and compares the "magic" in Rushdie’s novels with those of Marquez and Mo Yan.This paper is divided into three chapters:The first chapter discusses the specific expression of the magic realism style in Rushdie’s novels from two aspects of form and content. The Magic Kingdom of Rushdie’s novels consists of overlapping reality and illusion, fantastic plot and narration, absurd characters and images, colorful myths and fairy tales. The second chapter probes into the reasons for the formation of "magic" in Rushdie’s novels. As an Indian immigrant writer,Rushdie’s writing style is nourished by his home country India. He is in the middle and late 20th century.Influenced by post colonialism and post-modernism,the magical realism style of Rushdie’s novels becomes inevitable. At the same time,Rushdie’s individual cultural and educational background also adds magic color to his novels. The third chapter compares the magical realism style of Rushdie,Marquez and Mo Yan.The most comparable place in Rushdie’s and Marquez’s novels is the grand narrative with Latin America and the Indian subcontinent as the background, and the "samsara view" hidden in their works.Rushdie’s and Mo Yan’s novels have the same similarity, the most comparable is magic media and magic color. |
