Re-examining The Overall Westernization Of Modern China Form The Perspective Of Cultural Confidence

After the Opium War,in the process of the fierce collision and exchange between Chinese and Western cultures,traditional Chinese culture has always been on the back foot and has encountered serious challenges.Studying Western culture became the consensus of Chinese intellectuals,followed by a strong trend of total Westernization in the 1930 s,which triggered heated discussions in the intellectual circles on the relationship between Chinese and Western cultures.Behind the emergence and flourishing of the idea of total westernization lies the gradual collapse of Chinese people’s confidence in traditional Chinese culture.Since its establishment,the Communist Party of China has organically combined Marxist theory with China’s national conditions.In the great journey of leading the Chinese to achieve national rejuvenation,it has negated the trend of total Westernization from the theoretical and practical levels and rebuilt the cultural self-confidence of the Chinese nation.Cultural confidence plays a vital role in the prosperity and development of China,the improvement of comprehensive national power and the realization of the Chinese dream.From the perspective of cultural self-confidence,continuing to study the trend of thought of Westernization has great practical significance for eliminating the cultural inferiority of the Chinese nation since modern times and enhancing cultural self-confidence.This paper mainly adopts the literature research method and the historical research method,combined with the literature materials of the overall westernization trend of thought,systematically analyzes the formation of the overall westernization trend of thought in modern China from the perspective of cultural confidence,hoping to provide some ideological resources that can be used for reference for the development of Chinese culture and the enhancement of cultural confidence.This paper is divided into five parts based on the perspective of cultural self-confidence to study the idea of total westernization in modern China.The first part is the introduction,which briefly introduces the research background of this paper,the current state of research on the trend of total westernization and cultural confidence in modern China,and the innovative points and difficulties of the this research.In the second part,it firstly discusses the definition of culture and the basic concept of cultural self-confidence,then briefly summarizes the main characteristics of cultural self-confidence,such as nationality,plasticity and inclusiveness,and finally analyzes the value of cultural self-confidence in building a strong socialist cultural state and contributing to the realization of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.The third part systematically combs the formation and development of traditional Chinese cultural self-confidence in ancient China,focusing on how the high self-confidence of the Chinese nation in traditional Chinese culture has disintegrated step by step with the fierce collision between Chinese and Western cultures in modern times,and transformed into cultural inferiority,thus generating a trend of total westernization with extreme learning from the West.The fourth part summarizes the cultural claims of the total westernization trend in modern China and the challenges of those who oppose it,and objectively evaluates the total westernization trend in terms of both its status and limitations.The fifth parts discusses how the Communist Party of China,since its establishment,has completely rejected the idea of total Westernization and led the Chinese people to reshape their cultural self-confidence at both theoretical and practical levels during the period of the New Democratic Revolution,the period of reform and opening up,and the new era.In fact,since the new era,only a very small number of people still embrace the cultural proposition of total Westernization.Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China,national rejuvenation can be expected,the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation will be continuously enhanced,and the trend of total Westernization will disappear.
