A Report On The E-C Translation Of Sport Management:Principles And Applications(chapters 1 Through 6)

As sports industry keeps booming,the related fields of sports are increasing,and sport management,as a new subject,acts as a major player in the development of sports.Sport Management: Principles and Applications,as the core course material for sport management courses,mainly introduces the core management principles and their applications in the field of sports,providing the guidance for the development of sport management in China.Based on Toury‘s translation norms theory,this translation report discusses the feasibility of translation norms theory in management texts through case analysis.Toury holds the belief that translation norms,including preliminary norms,initial norms and operational norms,run through the whole translation process.The preliminary norms affect the translators‘pre-translation activities,under which the translator is asked to select the text to be translated and consider the directness of translation.Initial norms require the translators to make a choice between the norms of the source language and the target language.That is,if translators tend to follow the source language norms,it is called the translation adequacy;and if translators prefer to abide the target language norms,it is the translation acceptability.On this basis,the translator,considering the readers of the translation,abides by translation acceptability to translate the nominalization,metaphorical words and the sentences with parenthesis,and the abbreviations,synonyms and short sentences is translated following the translation adequacy.Operational norms,including matricial norms and textual-linguistic norms,affect the overall structure and language style of the translated text.Matricial norms determine the position adjustment,addition or omission of the text.Therefore,the text structure is processed by the restructuring of specific paragraphs and addition,so as to facilitate readers‘ reading.Textual-linguistic norms mainly restrict the choice of meaning and language style in the translated text,under the guidance of which the language is organized in terms of semantic extension,omission and adjustment of sentence pattern to ensure the acceptability of readers.This translation report,with the help of specific cases,proves the values of translation norms theory in management texts.It is hoped that this translation practice can open up the possibility of enhancing people‘s understanding of sport management and deliver the reference to the translators who is expected to translate management texts.
