Intertextuality Between Jia Pingwa’s Urban Novels And The Development Of Contemporary Chinese Cities

Since the 1990 s,the establishment of market economy has accelerated the pace of urban modernization,and the rapid social change has profoundly affected the political,economic and cultural fields of contemporary Chinese urban society.Xi’an,as a city with a thousand years of civilization,its profound cultural heritage and historical memory in front of the process of modern city,is more likely to be regarded as the key symbol to interpret the social changes of contemporary Chinese cities.Literature is a kind of special cultural practice of human beings.In the process of modern urbanization,urban novels still have a literary representation of the changes of Chinese cities.Jia Pingwa,who has lived in Xi’an for many years,has always insisted on witnessing China’s urban social changes with words.From abandoned capital published in 1993 to happy published in 2008,Jia Pingwa’s urban literature records the development trend of Chinese cities in the process of modernization.Therefore,based on the perspective of contemporary urban change in China,according to the "intertextuality" between the city in literature and the real Chinese city,this paper takes Jia Pingwa’s urban novels as the research sample,and analyzes the relationship between Jia Pingwa’s four urban novels and urban change in China from three aspects of urban economy,politics and culture This paper studies the broad prospect and changing track of the literary city constructed by Jia Pingwa’s urban novels,as well as his rational thinking and cultural attitude towards contemporary Chinese cities.Economically,under the background of the establishment of market economic system and the transformation of consumption oriented society,in Jia Pingwa’s urban works,the people in the waste capital are reduced to the "economic men" who seek to maximize their interests;the rise of commercialism and the arrival of consumer society stimulate people’s desire for material,and the colorful shops in the waste capital and white night gradually disappear The change of the concept of expense and the state of life.Politically,urban planning and governance reconstruct urban space.This paper explores Jia Pingwa’s thinking and expectation on the dual contradiction between urban and rural areas in the waste capital and Tumen.The development of city and the policy of the state’s registered residence system have made farmers enter the city to become a new mode of the development of the times.In Jia Pingwa’s happiness,by creating a group of rural people who go to the city to scavenging,they are concerned about the embarrassment and survival predicament of the Underclass in front of the modern city.Culturally,it is mainly discussed from three aspects: the cultural change of urban landscape,the change of urban people’s concept of marriage and love,and the loss and digestion of human spirit in modern cities.The last chapter,from the phenomenon to the essence,according to the consciousness of Jia Pingwa’s urban novels in the construction of the city’s living appearance,thinks about the aesthetic expectation of his literary City imagination for the future development of contemporary cities,so as to explore the practical significance of Jia Pingwa’s novels for the current urban development.
