English writing teaching has played an essential part in promoting students’ English core literacy.Peer assessment is effective to cultivate students’ autonomous,cooperative and investigative learning habits and abilities.It has long been a necessary component of English writing teaching as well.Based on the Scaffolding theory,the Interaction theory and the Noticing theory,the study tries to apply peer assessment in a class of Grade Eight in one of the junior high schools in Shenzhen.Through a pretest,a post-test,a questionnaire and an interview,the thesis sets goals on finding out the effects of peer assessment on students’ English writing revision in a junior high school in Shenzhen.It tries to solve the following two questions: 1)To what extent does peer assessment influence junior high school students’ writing revision? 2)What are the junior high school students’ perceptions of peer assessment in English writing revision?After a nearly three-month experimental research,the study has found that peer assessment has some effects on junior high school students’ English writing revision and to some extent it has improved the students’ writing proficiency.Moreover,the data from the questionnaire and the interview both revealed that the students in the experimental class hold a positive attitude towards peer assessment in junior high school English writing class.Although peer assessment is time-consuming,yet its advantages overwhelm its disadvantages.Junior high English teachers still could apply peer assessment in writing teaching as long as they are well-prepared and well-planned before the application.
