Translation Of Allusions In Su Shi’s Poetry From The Perspective Of Creative Treason

Su Shi’s poetry is characterized by the use of allusions.Allusions with historical and cultural images add difficulty to the translation of the poetry.At present,domestic researches on the translation of Su Shi’s poetry mainly focus on the comparison of different versions and the use of translation strategies.Few scholars have systematically studied translation of allusions in Su Shi’s poetry.Creative treason was first proposed by Robert Escarpit.Creative treason has great values in literary translation as it reveals the essence of translation and the collision and distortion between different languages.Creative treason focuses on the reality of translation and the cultural phenomena behind translation,which provides a new version for literary translation.Based on the above background,this paper is conducted to explore the allusion translation in Su Shi’s poetry by making case studies of different versions from the perspective of creative treason.After a thorough and detailed analysis,this paper sums up influences of individualized translation on cultural communication and acceptance as follows: the translation of allusions of Su Shi’s poetry reflects different translators’ individualized translation,including literal translation,domesticating and foreigining translation strategies etc.Translators’ intentional mistranslation of allusions belongs to creative treason,which is based on translators’ understanding of the original poetry and the culture of the target language.Translators’ unintentional mistranslation of allusions reflects the collision and communication between different languages and cultures,but it is not conducive to understand the connotations of original poetry in target language.Translators omit the allusions affecting the target readers’ understanding of the original poetry and the exchange between different cultures.Based on the above study,this paper puts forward some feasible suggestions as follows: supplement images or information in the target language to better interpret the allusion.Reproduce the images of the allusion in target language so as to convey the artistic conception and connotation of the allusion to the target language readers.Translate the allusion literally and add notes to explain the allusion so that the target language readers can have access to the connotation of the allusion and Chinese culture.
