A Study On The E-C Translation Of Historical Text Hemingway And The Spanish Civil War Under The Guidance Of Newmark’s Translation Theory

The Spanish Civil War(July 1936-March 1939)was a national revolutionary war with a broad international significance in which democracy fought fascism.Liberation weekly magazine once reported the Spanish civil war in all aspects,summed up the lessons and experiences of the anti-fascist struggle,and inspired the morale and confidence of the Chinese people in the war of resistance against Japan.This translation report,based on the translation practice of Hemingway and the Spanish Civil War,explores Hemingway’s view on the Spanish Civil War from a new perspective.It is a historical text with objective,vivid and logical language and involves a large number of political,military,news figures and related background knowledge during the Spanish Civil War.According to Newmark’s classification of text types,the original text is“informative text”.Based on Newmark’s translation theory,this paper discusses semantic translation and communicative translation,and further demonstrates the guiding significance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory for informative texts.Communicative translation requires focusing on the target readers,paying attention to the communicative effect and giving full play to the advantages of the target language,which is of great significance in exerting the informative function of text and guiding the translation practice of informative texts.In the process of translating this informative text,communicative translation is widely used at the lexical and syntactic levels.Based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory,this translation report starts with the three principles of communicative translation: “focusing on the target reader”,“paying attention to the communicative effect” and “giving full play to the advantages of the target language”,and explores the translation methods of the lexical and syntactic linguistic phenomena.On “focusing on the target reader”,it puts forward “Adding comments”,“Extension”,“Cultural filtering”,“Conversion” and “Amplification”;On “paying attention to the communicative effect”,it puts forward “Four character structure” and “Approximate meaning”;And on “giving full play to the advantages of the target language”,it puts forward “Adjustment of word order”,“Negation”,“”Cutting” and “Combination” in order to highlight the communicative meaning of the translation output and make the target readers obtain the same reading feeling as the original readers.
