A Report On The Simulated Consecutive Interpreting From The Perspective Of Interpretive Theory ——A Case Study On CCTV Documentary Jingdezhen

In interpretation research,the interpretative theory founded by French interpretation theorist Danica Seleskovitch is an essential theoretical reference widely recognized by the insiders.This theory holds that the essence of interpretation lies in interpreting the intrinsic meaning of the source language rather than the linguistic concept.This report selects the practical experience of simulative consecutive interpretation in the second episode,The Imperial Porcelain Factory of the CCTV documentary Jingdezhen as the study subject,aiming to systematically analyze the interpreting principles and techniques under the guidance of interpretative theory and find the integration point of the theory and practice.Meanwhile,the findings would further deepen the application research of interpretative theory and provide some reference significance for similar interpretation practices.The documentary is filmed in various forms,including the narrator’s part,interviews,and situational reproduction.It involves a wide range of cultural background knowledge,consisting of Jingdezhen ceramics,ancient architecture,urban layout,and the imperial kiln culture.The four-character idioms,cultxure-loaded words,and spoken language in this documentary brought considerable challenges to the interpreter,who needed to find appropriate strategies based on interpretative theory so that the target audience could deeply understand the meaning of the source language.This report elaborates on the process of this simulative interpretation practice.It attempts to analyze the specific cases according to the triangular model suggested by the interpretive theory-Understanding,Deverbalization,and Re-expression and finally concludes with reflections and summaries.In the author’s opinion,pre-interpreting preparation plays a crucial role in the interpretation practice.The cognitive supplementation of cultural background knowledge can significantly improve the acceptability of the target text.Besides,the interpreter can adopt appropriate interpreting skills according to the interpretative theory to enhance the translation effect and convey the background information of the culture and industry of the imperial wares and the development and changes of the pottery administration to realize intercultural communication.
