As an auspicious pattern, the bat patterns developed greatly in the Qing Dynasty, when “the picture must be intentional and the intention must be auspicious”,and became the mainstream of auspicious patterns, which were widely used in people’s clothing, food, housing and transportation, reflecting people’s love for a better life and the pursuit of ideals. The traditional bat patterns reflects people’s emotional and cultural psychology of praying for good fortune, and as a metaphor for good fortune, the art and cultural symbols of porcelains present a colorful appearance of the times. The Qing dynasty was a mature period in the development of royal kiln porcelains,in which the aesthetic changes in ceramics went through a change from elegant monochrome glazed porcelains to richly colored porcelains, and the colored porcelains made a great splash during this period, especially in the Kang Xi,Yong Zheng and Qian Long dynasties, when the bat pattern was widely used on royal kiln colored porcelains. This paper takes the bat patterns in the royal kiln porcelains of the Qing Dynasty as the object of study, explores the factors that influenced the development of the patterns, and analyzes the reasons why the bat patterns played an active role in the national culture and the national aesthetic tendencies and ways of thinking that they reflected,in order to help understand and pass on the relationship between traditional Chinese culture and the development of ceramic art.Firstly,we analyze the cultural connotation implied by the development of bat patterns as symbols;secondly,we analyze the artistic expression of bat patterns based on four aspects: image shaping, combination form, composition and color decoration techniques; Finally,a vertical connection is made with the dynasties to show the artistic style characteristics of bat patterns in different periods, effectively revealing the profound connotation of bat patterns in Qing dynasty royal kiln porcelains.
