| This translation practice report is based on the translation of the tour commentary of Yuchengyi Post Station scenic spot,a famous historical and cultural scenic spot in Gaoyou city,where the writer works.Yuchengyi Post Station is known as a world cultural heritage and a national 4A level tourist attraction.Considered to be an important link to promote economic and cultural growth,the publicity of tourist attractions plays an important role in the development of Gaoyou.However,there are many difficulties in tourism translation such as culture-loaded words,ancient poems and allusions,which may become barriers for cultural communication,resulting in the failure of an impressive introduction of the city and the scenic spot.This report aims to elaborate how the cross-cultural communication theory functions in the translation of this tour commentary to achieve the purpose of a better conveyance of characteristics of the site.The whole report contains five chapters.The first chapter demonstrates the background of tour commentary translation and introduces this translation task as well as the research significance.The second chapter presents the translation process and the proofreading are also included.The third chapter,guided by features of tourism translation,elaborates the connection between cross-cultural communication and tour translation.The fourth chapter focuses on case analysis,demonstrating how the translation difficulties solved in the two levels,namely vocabulary and syntax levels.Using the method of transliteration,free translation and additional translation,the translator tries to solve translation problems of the place names,people’s names and architectural words.Using the reduction method to solve the problem that Chinese sentences has too much gorgeous and complex rhetoric.Using the method of changing orders to deal with the problems of parataxis in Chinese.The last chapter reviews writing thoughts and makes a conclusion that tour commentary translator should take linguistic characteristics and texts into fully consideration before translation.However,no translation strategy is applicable in all the conditions.Translators,thus,should work out measures to suit concrete condition.The report shows that the tourism translation by using the cross-cultural communication theory can effectively realize the cultural spreading without losing its popularity and the profound heritage of traditional culture,and can make a good balance between respecting domestic culture and catering to foreign language characteristics. |
