| In recent years,with the development of science and technology,the use of multimodality to display and transmit information has become a common trend.The application of multimodal theory in English teaching is generally recognized by researchers and front-line teachers.The English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017version)stipulates that students should be trained to understand the meaning of pictures,images,sounds,symbols,colors and other non-verbal resources in multimodal discourses(such as movies,television,posters,songs and comics).In addition,the new curriculum standard also points out that teachers should actively learn and make use of various modern educational technologies in teaching.And they also need design teaching resources in various forms,which can provide more sources of information to students in the learning process.Then it can be seen that the new curriculum standard puts forward higher requirements for both teachers’ teaching and students’ learning.This study is based on multimodal discourse analysis theory and multimodal teaching theory,and 210 students and 4 teachers of grade one in senior high school in Changsha are selected as the research subjects.The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the application status of multimodal theory in senior high school English teaching.This study attempts to answer the following three questions:1.What is the application status of multimodal theory in senior high school English teaching?2.What are the problems in the application of multimodal theory in senior high school English teaching?3.What are the causes of the problems in the application of multimodal theory in senior high school English teaching?This study uses the research instruments of questionnaire,interview,classroom observation and SPSS20.0 to collect and analyze data.The conclusions of this study are as follows: First of all,the multimodal theory has been widely used in senior high school English teaching.Secondly,the main problems in the application of multimodal theory in senior high school English teaching are unreasonable selection of multimodal resources,inappropriate collocation of multimodal resources and inappropriate use of multimodal body language.Thirdly,the main causes for the problems in the application of multimodal theory in senior high school English teaching include unsystematic mastery of multimodal theoretical knowledge,single access to multimodal resource,and unskilled use of multimodal information technology.The implications of this study are as follows: Firstly,school should provide teachers with training courses related to multimodal theory to improve their understanding of multimodal theory and their ability to operate and apply multimodal information technology.Secondly,teachers should make full use of the Internet to enrich the access to multimodal teaching resources.Thirdly,teachers should make full use of the complementary relationship between different modes to improve the teaching efficiency. |
