| Alasdair Maclntyre has played a vital role in the development of contemporary western ethics. He is recognized as a representative figure of ethics and communitarianism. He has played a key role in the study of the turn of modern western ethics. His thoughts mainly focus on Aristotle’s virtue ethics. In MacIntyre’s virtue ethics, community is the only place for citizens to practice virtue, carrying all the contents of virtue practice. Therefore,MacIntyre’s reflection on community must be given enough attention. In MacIntyre’s view, the key to solving the moral crisis in modern western society is to awaken citizens and form the widest understanding of virtue,so he highly praises Aristotle’s virtue teleology in his initial works. The importance of community is reflected in that it is the only place for citizens to practice virtue, and the community in the best state can cultivate citizens’ virtue. However, his appeal to the narrative unity of life and the traditional theoretical discussion has led to the criticism of relativism. In response to the accusation and to explore the realistic path of establishing an ideal community,he reviewes his previous works and begins to include Aristotle’s biological basis into the scope of the concept of virtue.Through the explanation and analysis of the nature and degree of human vulnerability and disability,Macintyre successfully brings dependency into the theoretical category of building an ideal community. In MacIntyre’s view, the ideal community carrying the pursuit of human virtue is not a modern state or family form, but the "local community" between the two.The local community under the network relationship of giving and receiving is not only the best community form to carry virtue practice, but also the best social structure to protect public welfare. The thesis consists of four main parts of introduction and main body. The introduction mainly focuses on the existing research achievements of scholars nationwide and woeldwide by using literature reading method, and points out the background of the paper, research direction, innovation and so on.The first part of the main body of the paper focuses on the forming factors of Macintyre’s community thought, including two specific contents:first, the social background of Macintyre’s community thought, focusing on the current situation of modern western moral society; The second is the traditional community thought that has an important impact on MacIntyre’s community theory, mainly the city-state community of Aristotle and the religious community of Thomas Aquinas. The second part focuses on the specific characteristics of MacIntyre’s community theory:recognizing the dependent community, paying special attention to the dependent and moral characteristics required for the establishment of the community, and making a detailed description of the form of the ideal community. The third part discusses the reasonable elements of the establishment of the community by analyzing MacIntyre’s text, focusing on MacIntyre’s theoretical defense for the realization of the local community at the individual and group levels. The last part evaluates MacIntyre’s community thought from the perspective of Marxist Philosophy. In general,MacIntyre’s ideal community structure has natural deficiencies in practice, but this community blueprint has important theoretical value and practical guiding significance in solving the diversified moral differences and building the value pursuit of common good, also helping people deepen their understanding and deepening of Marxist community thought. |
