The author translated Peter Duck Book One,a children’ s novel written by Arthur Ransome with the theme of voyage exploration. In order to better realize“writing for children” in the practice, the author chose two important concepts of reception theory, namely “horizon fusion” and “horizon of expectation”,to guide the translation practice. The report introduces the background and significance of this translation practice, briefly summarizes the content of the original text, and analyzes the characteristics of the original text.Peter Duck is a maritime adventure work mainly for readers over 8years old.Its language is vivid, mostly using colloquial words, professional nautical terms and proverbs, and also using many long and difficult sentences. There are many characters in the text, and each person is distinctive.Besides, this report discusses the difficulties of the translation practice, and under the guidance of “horizon fusion”and “horizon of expectation”,combined with practical cases, summarizes the translation principles and strategies of this practice from three aspects of word, sentence and text.At the lexical level, the author mainly adopts such translation strategies as annotation and addition and selects simple and vivid words as far as possible to faithfully express the true meaning of nautical terms and proverbs,so as to facilitate children readers’ understanding and arouse their interest in reading. At the sentence level, when translating long and difficult sentences, parallelism sentences and other sentence patterns, the author adopts the strategies of splitting and changing the order to avoid translationese and make the translation easy to understand,so as to meet the expectations of readers. At the textual level, the author adopts literal translation, free translation and other translation strategies to faithfully reproduce the three-dimensional image of each character,in order to achieve the fusion of the three horizons. The author believes that the concepts of horizon fusion and horizon of expectation are of great significance to the translation of children’s literature.During the translation of children’s literature,on the basis of being faithful to the original text, the translator should focus on children, put in the children’s horizon of expectation, and then adopt literal translation, free translation and other related translation strategies to achieve horizon fusion and improve the quality of translation. The author hopes that this practice report can provide a new perspective for the study of children’s literature translation.
