| The content of this interpretation project is selected from the Lecture Room-Stories of ancient Chinese medicine about Li Shizhen launched by the Science and Education column of CCTV,with 4 episodes in total. The reporter acted as a Chinese-English consecutive interpreter in this project. While interpreting, the reporter encountered a large number of traditional Chinese medical terms and ancient medical texts, which presents a high demand on the background knowledge of the interpreter. In spite of relatively sufficient accumulation of basic TCM knowledge before interpretation, the reporter still encountered such problems as insufficient background knowledge and terminology, improper intralingual interpretation, and difficulty in interpreting output when completing the interpretation task.As for the above problems, the reporter proposes the following solutions according to the interpretive theory.First of all, full preparations before interpretation should be made to have a sight of the life and deeds of the main character in the lecture as well as his main achievements and historical environment in which he lived. What’s more, besides the accumulating of basic TCM knowledge, the reporter should not only understand the rules of terminology interpretation but also query Chinese medicine dictionaries to build a bilingual glossary. For the problem of improper intralingual interpretation, the reporter could practice translation, sight interpretation to get familiar with intralingual interpretation so as to purchase higher quality of TCM interpretation. Finally, the reporter needs to ensure high-quality output to solve the problem of difficulty in interpreting output in the ways that followed. For example, the reporter can watch TCM forum programs and other lectures given by the speaker to understand his language habits and lecture style to reduce nervousness. The reporter should also be familiar with the interpretation of TCM subject and coordinate the brain memory and note taking while carrying out related exercises in order to improve the integrity of input and output information. The reporter hopes that the solutions proposed in this report can enrich the current research on TCM interpretation and provide reference and guidance for future interpreters. |
