A Study Of Taoist Female Immortal Belief From The Perspective Of Feminism

As a native religion in China,Taoism has been passed down for thousands of years.Its thoughts have influenced all aspects of Chinese social life and culture,especially the core belief of Taoism,immortal belief,which occupies a place in the life of the masses.Immortals,as the embodiment of the eternal Tao,have the best quality and have been pursued by people.The female immortals,such as Xiwangmu,Bixia yuanjun,Houtu,Magu and Jiutianxuannv,are not only praised by the immortal biography represented by the collection of immortals in Yongcheng,but also have many believers and incense in the folk.Among them,Liu Xiang’s Biography of Liexian in the Western Han Dynasty and Ge Hong’s Biography of Immortals in the Jin Dynasty,although dating back a long time ago,have preliminarily covered some female immortals spread in later generations,including Jiang Fei’s two daughters,Yuanke’s wife,Meinv,Nvji,Ma Gu,Xihe,Mrs Fan,Cheng’s wife and so on."Yong Cheng Ji Xian Lu" was written by Du Guangting,Hou Shu.It is the earliest surviving female fairy biography in the history of Taoism in China.The first six volumes recorded the deeds of 37 female fairies including Shengmuyuanjun,Jinmuyuanjun,Yaoji,and Magu.Some of the female fairies’ deeds were treated religiously to make the female fairies superb.His divinity and independent personality charm."Li Shi Zhen Xian Ti Dao Tong Jian Hou Ji" was written by Zhao Daoyi in the Yuan Dynasty.It is divided into six volumes with a total of 120 female fairies.The deeds of female celestial beings such as Zisuyuanjun and Mrs.Wei are not the same.Of course,they also recorded the deeds of female celestial beings after Tang Dynasty including Sun Buer.This paper systematically describes the basic school thoughts of feminism and the basic connotation of Taoist belief in female immortals by combing and summarizing the literature and applying the scientific method of integrating theory with practice,and points out the practical reference significance of female immortal belief to the development of contemporary Chinese Feminism.The foreword mainly introduces the current academic research on the belief of Taoist female celestials,so as to discuss the necessity of studying the belief of Taoist female celestials.The first chapter mainly introduces the origin of the development of Taoist fairies and the basic characteristics of the fairies’ belief in Taoism and equality.The second chapter systematically studies the feminist color reflected in the Taoist fairies’ belief,including the discussion of the relationship between self and others,the awakening of the Taoist nature of female monks,and the relationship between monasticism and feminism.The third chapter points out the three major dilemmas faced by the development of contemporary feminism,and points out the ideological value and social significance of the study of Taoist female immortal belief for solving the development dilemma of contemporary feminism.
