Dunhuang manuscripts collected Britain is a Dunhuang document collected by the National Library of the UK.It is rich in content and time span from the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty.It is mostly handwritten,including Confucian classics,religious scriptures,historical geography,language and literature,medical classics and prescriptions,household registration books,etc.Of which Buddhism literature accounts for the vast majority.This paper selects volume 1-3 of Dunhuang manuscripts collected in Britain(S00001-S00220)as the research material to study its characters,and to make textual research on the difficult characters.This paper is divided into four chapters:Chapter one: introductionThis chapter mainly introduces the research materials,that is,the relevant introduction of Dunhuang documents;The current situation of the research on the use of characters,including the theoretical research and practical research on the use of characters;The research value,including the value of the study on the use of characters as well as other values;The research method,mainly the comparative method,is to use other versions of Buddhist scriptures to explore the Dunhuang Buddhist scriptures,and then separate out the special use of characters.Chapter two: the categories of Buddhist scriptures in Dunhuang manuscripts collected in BritainThis chapter summarizes and classifies the words used in the Buddhist scriptures of Dunhuang manuscripts collected in Britain(volumes 1-3),and analyzes them with examples.The classification includes not only the special characters used in the study of unearthed documents,such as variant characters,interchangeable characters,ancient and modern characters,but also the special characters used in the study of modern characters,such as generic characters,homographs and transliterated characters.Chapter three: a comparative study of the characters used in the written version of the Sutra and other versions of the SutraThis chapter uses Dunhuang Buddhist scriptures to explore other versions of Buddhist scriptures and make a comparative study of the use of words,including the reasons for different use of words,the value of comparative study of words and the types of words.Among them,the author uses a new classification standard,including pictographic,phonetic,semantic,pictophonetic,pictophonetic and semantic.Chapter four: a study of the difficult words used in the Buddhist scriptures of Dunhuang manuscripts collected in BritainThis chapter selects the difficult words in the 19 character Buddhist scriptures of Dunhuang posthumous manuscripts collected in Britain,and uses other versions of Buddhist scriptures to explore and verify the contents of other Buddhist scriptures.The difficult words selected are mainly those not included in large dictionaries,popular dictionaries and confused words which are difficult to recognize.
