Humour Transfer In Sitcom Translation

Situation comedy(sitcom),as the primary comedic genre of the mass-media era,has won popularity among people all over the world.A large number of US sitcoms have been introduced to China and exerted a tremendous impact on Chinese audiences in recent years.The study of sitcom at home focuses on its comedy nature or character conflicts;however,the study of sitcom translation is still slightly inadequate from the perspective of reception aesthetics theory.This dissertation,guided by reception aesthetics theory,aims to explore sitcom translation problems through plentiful examples from Brooklyn Nine-Nine S05E03/04.This report manifests that translation strategies such as domestication,amplification and neology are able to provide good assistance in transferring the maximum humor effect to TL audience.It is hopefully that the report could be of help to the translators who participate in such translation activities in the future.
