The Goal And Temptation: The Moderator Effects Of Self-regulate

In past few years,as people have paid more and more attention on self-regulatation,goal-setting and goal pursuit have come to an important research of psychologists.Goal system theory points that different goal-systems may be activated at the same time through environmental priming and they may compete with each other for mental resources.Therefore,goal conflict comes.In the research,compared to a more important and long term goal,we define the short term goal which focuses the focal interests as temptation.Thus,goal conflict is defined as temptation and goal conflict.However,there is considerable lack of the theory and empirical research of goal conflict which based on Chinese culture.Considering the theoretical and practical values of research on goal conflict,we use experimental method to explore goal shielding,temptation-goal links,and the interaction of self-regulate in the two above.To achieve this goal,this study was composed of the following four specific researches:Research one is to test whether the activation of committed goals spontaneously inhibits the accessibility of temptations through the use of a subliminal sequential priming procedure.The result is that there definitely provide support for goal shielding in college students if the prime word interfere with target word.Research two is to test whether self-regulatory strength affects goal shielding,and how much it have an effect on.The result shows that self-regulatory strength doesn’t influent goal shielding.Research three is to assess the strength of temptation-goal associations through the use of a subliminal sequential priming procedure.The results provide initial support for the notion that temptations automatically activate representations of their overriding goals if the prime word interferes with target word.The fleeting presentation of a temptation-related key word facilitated recognition of the opposing goal,consistent with the temptation-goal links.Research four is based on research three,which is to test whether the self-regulatory strength influent temptation-goal associations.The result tells us that self-regulatory strength interacts with the associations on the condition that the prime word interferes with target word.
