With the rise of digital media,the interactive works reappear in people’s vision with a new attitude.More and more designers are not satisfied with the status quo.They try to combine interaction and storytelling,and want to use new media to tell good stories.Interactive storytelling has received wide attention as an important branch of post-classical narratology.As early as the end of the last century,Western theorists began to study cyber culture,exploring interactive storytelling in the field of literature and art for the first time.In cyberspace,users have the ability to interact with the virtual world.However,it was restricted by technology,and the interactivity and narrative of the works were also lacking.In the current development,games,VR,interactive drama and other media have been promoted to the public.In order to give users more freedom,the designer has increased the degree of interaction.Among them,there are authors with narrative pursuit,and they hope to create wonderful stories in the virtual world.Marie-Laure Ryan is dedicated to the study of interactive storytelling,and her theory promotes the development of post-classical narrative.The paper concentrates on analyzing Ryan’s interactive theory,and tries to talk to Ryan by combining the relevant discourses of other scholars and the author’s opinions.The main content of this article is as follows:Introduction.Introduce the background of the subject,analyze the status quo of domestic and foreign research,and elaborate the originality of the paper.Chapter One Ryan’s Discussion on Digital Media and Interactivity.Present its concept from the five basic attributes of digital media.On this basis,two opposing relationships in digital media will be discussed.After that,enumerate the five digital media described by Ryan and give a brief introduction to them.Chapter Two Ryan’s Theory on Interactive Storytelling Levels.Discuss the five narrative levels in Ryan’s writings: peripheral interactivity,interactivity affecting narrative discourse and the presentation of the story,interactivity creating variations in a predefined story,real-time story generation,and meta-interactivity.There are many issues worthy of discussion in the interactive level.The paper combines the views of other scholars and the author,and further elaborates on the valuable discussions among them.Chapter Three Ryan’s Theory of Interactive Storytelling Creation.Prob into Ryan’s interactive storytelling theory from the perspective of poetics.In order to create more perfect interactive works,five aesthetic goals must be achieved.On top of this,three types of plots are connected,namely epic plot,dramatic plot and epistemic plot.The paper combines the relatively outstanding works in recent years to launch an interactive storytelling analysis of three different types of plots.Conclusion Summarize the gains and losses of Ryan’s interactive storytelling theory and the enlightenment for the development of interactive storytelling research in China.
