| According to the English curriculum standard for compulsory education(2011Edition),language skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing are important parts of language application ability. As one of the most important four language skills, reading plays an important role in English learning and teaching. However, there are some problems with the current English reading teaching in junior high school: the teaching style is monotonous, and teachers are not good at mobilizing the classroom atmosphere;teachers lack effective teaching methods, and they neglect the cultivation of students’ reading ability. Thus, students lack interest in learning English and the learning effect is far from being satisfactory.Although many scholars have conducted some in-depth researches on the above-mentioned problems and explored a variety of English reading teaching models, the teaching effect is not obvious in the actual teaching process. As a model that keeps pace with the times, the flipped classroom model updates the traditional teaching model, caters to the trend of personalized learning and has some advantages in solving some problems.Firstly, the flipped classroom model changes the identity of teachers. In the model, teachers transform from knowledge initiators to learning facilitators, learning advisors and resource developers.Secondly, the flipped classroom model encourages student-oriented activities.Students become the leader of learning activities, moving from passive recipients to active participants.Thirdly,in the model, students can arrange their own time to watch videos and read other materials before class, and they can learn knowledge in advance. Thus, they have more opportunities to develop problem-solving learning.Starting from the problems in junior high school English reading teaching, the paper aims to explore the application of the flipped classroom model. In order to verify the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model in junior high school English reading, the study tries to answer the following two questions:(1)What effects does the application of the flipped classroom model have on junior high school students’ English reading attitude?(2)What effects does the application of the flipped classroom model have on junior high school students’ English reading ability?A comparative experiment was conducted in Yangshan junior high school,Xinyang, and two parallel classes were chosen as the experimental subjects.Class 3 of Grade 8was the experimental class that adopted the flipped classroom model, and Class 6 of the same grade was the control class that adopted the traditional teaching model.Relevant experimental data was obtained by interviews,pre-test,post-test and questionnaires.Statistics were analyzed by SPSS20.0 software. The following conclusions are drawn:(1)The application of the flipped classroom model reduces students’ anxiety and enhances their interest and confidence.(2)The application of the flipped classroom model can effectively improve students’ English reading ability, especially the ability of word guessing, inferring and summarizing.Above all,the research explores the effects of the flipped classroom model on the English reading attitude and the ability of junior high school students. In addition,it also verifies the effectiveness of the flipped classroom model in junior high school English reading teaching and provides a new direction for junior high school English reading teaching. |
