In ancient legends and folk beliefs,Zhong Kui is a folk god who exorcises evil spirits and welcomes good fortune and good luck.As the visual representation carrier of zhong Kui legend,zhong Kui image has a history of more than one thousand years since it was first created by Wu Daozi in tang Dynasty.In the process of historical development,due to the differences in social environment,different characteristics and styles of The Times are presented.The Ming and Qing Dynasties were the peak of zhong Kui’s image development.At that time,Zhong Kui’s image was endowed with the meaning of "auspicious".It once represented the evil imp as a servant,a boy,or a bat with the meaning of "auspicious".Zhong Kui motif has also been greatly expanded,in addition to the "exorcism" motif,there are also "blessing","town house","seeking children" and many other secularized motif.The picture of Zhong Kui in Ming and Qing dynasties bears the economic and cultural characteristics of The Times,and embodies the folk culture and aesthetic changes in Ming and Qing dynasties.In this paper,zhong Kui’s picture,porcelain and wood-block New Year pictures in Ming and Qing dynasties are analyzed,and the motif and artistic characteristics are summarized,in order to get a more specific understanding of the development of Zhong Kui’s picture in Ming and Qing dynasties.The thesis consists of five parts: The first part discusses the research background and significance,research status and so on;The second part is about the origin of Zhong Kui’s image.The third part classiifies the picture motif of Zhong Kui in Ming and Qing Dynasties with a large number of brush and ink,and explores the deep reasons for the secularization change of zhong Kui images in Ming and Qing Dynasties with image analysis method.The fourth part analyzes the formal language features of Zhong Kui images in Ming and Qing Dynasties from the perspective of creation techniques.The fifth part is to explore the aesthetic communication of Zhong Kui image in Ming and Qing Dynasties and dig its cultural connotation.The picture of Zhong Kui in Ming and Qing dynasties is the visual transformation of zhong Kui’s folk belief,showing the characteristics of diversification,blessing expression,emotion and meaning.Through the research of this paper,I hope to attract people’s attention to zhong Kui’s image research and make up for the lack of relevant research on folk images.The development of zhong Kui’s images in Ming and Qing Dynasties can reflect the production rules of traditional folk images and provide reference for the development of contemporary folk art.
