Primary school is the beginning of basic education.Ideological and political education in the teaching process is more fundamental and more important for children,which directly affects their future development and has special significance for the formation of their outlook on life and values.The infiltration of ideological and political education in primary school English teaching is the requirement of the new educational situation.English picture books,as popular reading materials for students,are not only rich in content and vivid in plot,but also contain a lot of materials with thoughts and connotations.They are good carriers of ideological and political education and moral shaping for students.Therefore,in the teaching of English picture books in primary schools,teachers should integrate English picture book teaching with curriculum ideology and politics,which can not only improve students’ ability and interest in English reading,but also improve students’ moral standards and overall qualities.In this paper,the author reviewed the original teaching achievements of English picture book teaching and curriculum ideological and political.Sixteen English teachers and two classes(167 students)of Grade 4 in the author’ s school were selected as the research subjects,which were respectively an experimental class and a controlled class.The teaching model of SPP and PWP were taken as the guidance,and Constructivist Learning Theory,Humanistic Learning Theory and the Theory of Cognitive Moral Development were taken as the theoretical bases.Questionnaire,interview,test and classroom observation were taken as research methods.This thesis mainly studied the current situation of integrating curriculum ideological and political into English picture book teaching in this school,how to integrate ideological and political education into English picture book teaching,and how to improve students’ interest and ability in English reading by combining ideological and political teaching with English picture books.Through comparative analysis of experimental data,the author finds that although teachers and students believe that English picture books are of great help to English learning,they do not attach much importance to English picture books and ideological and political education under the exam-oriented education system.Most teachers will ignore the teaching of English picture books,and few teachers carry out ideological and political education for students in class.After four months of English picture book teaching experiments,the author comes to the following conclusions: if teachers choose appropriate English picture books by referring to the SPP teaching mode and integrate curriculum ideology and politics in class by referring to the PWP teaching mode,it can not only reduce teachers’ teaching pressure,improve students’ English reading interest and reading level,but also carry out ideological and political education for students in class.Therefore,this thesis confirms the feasibility and effectiveness of English picture book teaching mode integrating curriculum ideology and politics in primary School English picture book teaching.At the same time,the author also summarized the limitations of the study and put forward suggestions for further research.
