English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2017 version)sets goals and requirements at all levels in the way that students can do things in English,aiming to emphasize the cultivation of students’ ability of compressive language use.The author applies Swain’s Output Theory to English writing teaching,which includes notice function,hypothesis testing function,metalinguistic function and fluency function.The author applies these four functions to each teaching link of English writing class,aiming at improving students’ writing level through this teaching mode.Accordingly,the author puts forward two research questions.1.What are the changes of student’ attitude towards writing after applying Output Theory to English writing teaching in Junior middle school?2.What are the effects of applying Output Theory to English writing teaching on students’ writing level in junior middle school?To answer these two problems,the author conducted an 11-week experiment in two classes of Grade 8 of a junior middle school in Shenyang,with a total of 101 students.The experimental class used the teaching method based on Output Theory,while the control class still used the original writing teaching method.The experiment used tests,questionnaires and interviews as measuring instruments.In order to answer the first research question,the researcher investigated the change of students’ writing attitude by means of interviews and questionnaires.In order to answer the second research question,the research adopted test as a research instruments and collected the data of students’ writing scores in two classes.The data will be analyzed by using SPSS 26.0.The results show that:(1)By applying Output theory to junior high school English writing teaching,students will be aware of the existing problems in writing and be able to correct them with the help of teachers and classmates.They can also use more abundant writing materials to express themselves,what’s more,their language usage gets more accurate.(2)By applying Output theory to junior high school English writing teaching,students’ writing attitude has been significantly improved.Specifically,students’ interest in English writing is significantly improved,and they can be aware of the existing problems in writing and the ways to improve writing;They will actively collect and accumulate writing materials and take writing tasks seriously,etc.
