This report is based on the E-C translation of Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man,a social science text written by Emmanuel Acho in 2020.It mainly introduces racial discrimination against black people in American society.Sections 2to 7 are selected for analysis and research. The source text contains rich cultural and historical information with numerous culture-loaded words. In the process of translation, the translator is faced with two difficulties, namely linguistic and cultural difficulties.Avoiding mistranslation and conveying the meaning of the source text in readable languages are challenges. Therefore, the translation of culture-loaded words is selected as the main point. The translator chooses Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory as the theoretical basis based on the text analysis. And three translation methods including transliteration with annotation, literal translation with annotation and free translation are adopted to ensure that the translation is fluent and readable, giving the target language readers a similar reading experience as the source language readers. In addition, the translator expects that this report can provide references to the translation practice and research of culture-loaded words.
