In theatrical performances,actors are both the narrative subject and the driving force of dramatic development.The distinctive character and vivid persona could provide the audience with a strong sensory impression and sense of immersion,while also catering to the audience’s viewing requirements and artistic satisfaction.A qualified actor is expected to constantly extract abundant creative materials from surrounding in order to achieve the target of creating an individual character in the performance.More importantly,in the process of character creation,the ability to adequately grasp the tone of the character,and to analyze the character’s depth of perception and experience by means of secondary character composition should be emphasized.It is by familiarising oneself with the character’s life,exploring the character’s disposition,seizing the character’s emotions and focusing on the characterisation of the character that one can collectively form a stage character with distinctive features and well-rounded characterisation.This paper combines the author’s practical experience and the process of characterization of the character "Gailing" in the graduation production "Adultery or disposition".Furthermore,the article analyzes and summarizes the characterization of the character in four dimensions: the concept of characterization,the best route for actors to acquire characterization,how actors manifest characterization in their performances,and the significant function of characterization in performances.The purpose is to elaborate the role of character in characterization and the approaches,techniques and methodologies for actors to acquire character particularity and highlight it.This will establish a concrete foundation for character building and serving the country’s art industry in the future.
